New Design Wall!!

New Design Wall!!

Well I’m really excited because my box from The Fabric Patch was delivered!   So I have been unpacking it, and organizing my fabrics and room as I go.  One on the items were 2 pieces of graph flannel to make a design wall.  So I got one put together today, (really simple, the fabric, and a piece of foam insulation board a BOOM) but will need to get the other one done (I ran out of tape!).  I had been wanting a design wall for a long time.  Normally I’m on my hands and knees, hunched over my blocks trying to arrange them.  This way I can throw them up, back up and see it much better.

Design WallYou see my Navaho Rose quilt, I have all the blocks done, just need to get the sashing cut out and then the 2 borders and she will be ready to go!!  It’s my first batik quilt ever.  I’ve always loved batiks, but am always afraid that the colors will just kind of blur into one another and I’ll have a wishy-washy quilt.  So I decided to make one, and go for color, color, and MORE color!   🙂

On a personal note, my spouse Karl and I recently got our license to foster and adopt in the state of Iowa.  So while we are gathering items we need for any children we might be looking after (ages 0-3 at the moment) I have been buying alot of baby / toddler items.  One thing I have found, crib and toddler bedding is SO expensive!!  And what you get for the money isn’t in 100% cotton most of the time, and feels….terrible!!  (It makes my teeth itch!)  So I have been on the look out for great patterns for cribs, etc.  So if you have any favorites let me know.  I’ve already decided to make my own crib sheets, as the tutorial I found on Youtube seems easy enough!

So I’m sure I will be sharing more kids things as I find them!  Cause boy howdy!  What they want for some items are ridiculous!   🙂

Happy Quilting!!

Navajo Rose - Pattern by Cynthia Rang

Navajo Rose – Pattern by Cynthia Rang

I believe I will be receiving a box this week with all of the goodies and treasures I got while I was in Ephrata from The Fabric Patch.  I can’t wait to show you some of the amazing kits and fabric I got while spending time with Cindi, Charisma, and Co.  You will love it.  🙂

The pattern on the left is called Navajo Rose.   And when my box arrives you will get to see my fun, bright, batik version of this pattern.  (Designed by my friend Cindi).  This was my first quilt using traditional piecing techniques instead of using my specialty rulers.  Why it wasn’t bad, now I want to try and convert the pattern, as it’s one I feel like I will make again.

I also got the SWEETEST kit for a baby quilt that has fire flies on it.  It’s really beautiful!!  So I can’t wait for you to see that.

Otherwise I have GOT to get going on the “Be There, Get Your Square – BOM” with my LQS Pine Needles.  I got a tad behind from vacation, and then MORE behind from being sick.  So I need to get on the ball and get my blocks for August completed, and then start on September.

I HATE how time has slipped away so quickly this month!!  So please bear with me, a lot of neat stuff is on the way!  🙂

Happy Quilting!

Quilt Room - My Station

Quilt Room – My Station

If you recall a few weeks back I had received some new sewing cabinets from Arrow Sewing Cabinets that were an incredible deal.  They were moving their facilities and had some available at a STEAL!

Well this weekend I finally got around to un-boxing them and setting them up.  It will be great for my mom and my friend Joann to have a specific spot to come over and sew (which is not as often as I would like, that darn thing called life always seems to get in the way)

Anyway I now have a dedicated desk for the computer, as well as a blank spot for…well I’m sure it will collect things, but it’s nice to have a blank spot to sort, etc.

While I was arranging everything, I came to the conclusion that I needed more things on the wall.  I want to make my own design wall, and then…even though for years I’ve said how much I hate them…I want to get….a wall hanging!!!  There I said it!  For years I’ve been saying how much I hate them in a house….but in this particular instance, in a quilt room setting it seems appropriate.  🙂

This week I will be going on vacation. (YAY!)  Karl and I are headed out to visit friends and family in Washington state.  His parents live in Coupeville, WA and I have some friends in Ephrata, WA.

So for the first 4 days I will be spending time with my quilting friends in Ephrata.  My friend Cindi is the owner of The Fabric Patch and has recently opened a Quilt Retreat Center (which is where I will be

staying!)  And then my long-arm quilter Charisma (Owner of Charisma’s Corner – Long-Arm Quilting).  I can’t wait, we always have a wonderful time.  Lots of laughing, and inspiration, it will be GREAT!

Then I meet Karl and his family and we embark on an Alaskan cruise (a gift from Karl’s dad to the family last Christmas).  It’s going to be a really fun week, and I’m really looking forward to it.  I hope I see a polar bear!!  So I’m going to try and update my blog while I am away, but with internet service, etc on a cruise I can’t guarantee it!

Have a wonderful day!  Happy Quilting!
